Que Mazatlán se fundó sobre el agua, que alrededor de la Plazuela Machado pasaba un tranvía jalado por caballos, y que con su crecimiento el Centro de la ciudad ya no ocupa geográficamente ese sitio son algunos de los descubrimientos que se pueden hacer al visitar la casa donde se creó la maqueta del Centro Histórico.
Este proyecto fue creado por arquitectos, en su gran mayoría recién egresados, llenos de creatividad y talento, quienes invirtieron tres años de trabajo para finalmente llevar a la luz el que seguramente se convertirá en uno de los atractivos más importantes de esta zona de Mazatlán.
La experiencia inicia con el puro hecho de poder conocer una casona de más de 100 años de antigüedad. Una primera maqueta del medio físico natural de la zona en que se fundó Mazatlán se complementa con una cubierta de acrílico transparente con el trazo urbano actual.
Apenas así se comprenden por qué en fotos antiguas se muestra una calle Constitución inundada por un mar que estaba a apenas dos cuadras de distancia. En ese tiempo podían llegar a juntarse las aguas de Olas Altas con las de la desaparecida Playa Sur.
Hay dos platos fuertes en este paseo: la maqueta en si del Centro Histórico y la oportunidad de conocer a Sergio Flores, un gran artista, y su taller.
La maqueta fue un sueño compartido durante más de tres años para llegar a representar a la Plazuela Machado y edificios circunvecinos durante la época de 1890 a 1910. Por si sola es una obra de arte, pues combina detalles extremos que son motivo de interesantes pláticas con sus creadores.
Para este paseo reserve dos horas. Se sorprenderá de la rapidez con que pasa el tiempo mientras se concentra en conocer a Mazatlán.


Tierra original
Una maqueta muestra la geografía original de la zona donde se construyó Mazatlán. La cubierta de acrílico muestra la ciudad actual.

Souvenirs
Tienen a la venta camisetas, tazas, libros y demás recuerdos del lugar.

Mapa
Directo en el piso se aprecia un mapa de la ciudad, creado con fotografías de satélite acomodadas como rompecabezas. Quienes llegan enseguida tratan de ubicar sus puntos de referencia, su casa, el hotel, o sitios visitados. Si se levanta alguna pieza pueden encontrarse con un mapa pintado en el piso, y quizá sorprenderse de estar viviendo sobre lo que fue una laguna.

Taller de un artista
Sergio Flores, un maestro de la escultura en sus diferentes técnicas y géneros, además de apoyar con sus conocimientos el proyecto de la maqueta, expone varias de sus obras en la sala principal y abre su taller a los visitantes, que con suerte lo podrán ver trabajar.

Molduras
Las del Teatro Ángela Peralta se hicieron con plástico derretido, aplicado con una jeringa.

Palmas
Las hojas son plumas de palomas, pintadas en cuatro tonos de verde.

Quiosco
Fue realizado en filigrana de plata.

Faroles
Están hechos con agujas hipodérmicas, a través de las cuales se introdujo fibra óptica.

Cisnes
Son milimétricos, recuerdan los que se trasladaron a las plazas de Copala y Pánuco.

Tranvía
Próximamente se le dará movimiento.

Iluminación
Los edificios tienen luz interior.

Pisos
Se dibujaron y se pintaron para semejar adoquín o duelas de madera.

If you visit the house where the model of the Historic center was created you can discover such things as the fact that Mazatlan was founded on water, that a team of horses used to haul a trolley carriage through the Machado Plaza and that with the growth of the city center, the city had to expand. This project was created by architects, the majority of them recently graduated, filled with creativity and talent. They invested three years of work to finally bring this model of Old Mazatlan to life, an attraction that surely will become one of the most important in the area.
The experience started with the fact of wanting to be able to really know an old house of more then 100 years. A first mock up model of the natural physical medium of the area where Mazatlan was founded is complemented with a transparent acrylic cover as the area of present day Mazatlan is traced around it.
It is understood why in old photos Constitucion Street is flooded by a sea that is only 2 blocks away. At that time, the waters of Olas Altas met with the waters of the disappeared Playa Sur.
There are two main attractions to visiting this exhibit. There is the actual model of the Historic Center and then there is the opportunity to meet Sergio Flores, a great artist, in his workshop.
The model of El Centro was a dream that was shared for three years. It was meant to represent the Machado Plaza and the surrounding buildings during the era of 1890 to 1910. That in itself is a work of art as it combines extreme details that are the motive for interesting discussions among its creators.
Reserve two hours for this tour. You will be surprised at how rapidly the time goes by while you are concentrating on Old Mazatlan.

Original area
The model shows the original geography of the area where Mazatlan was built. The acrylic cover shows the current city.

Souvenirs
Shirts, books, cups and other souvenirs are on sale.

Map
On the floor there is a map of the city that was created by satellite photography put together like a puzzle. Those who arrive can try to locate points of reference such as their home or hotel or other sites they visited. If you pick a piece up you will find another map painted on the floor and you may be surprised t find out that where you are living was once a lagoon.

The workshop of an artist
Sergio Flores is a master of sculpting in all its various techniques and genres. In addition to sharing his knowledge and supporting the model project, he exhibits several of his pieces in the main room and opens his workshop to visitors who can watch him work.

Moldings
Those of the Angela Peralta Theater were made with melted plastic applied with a syringe.

Palm leaves
These are made out of dove feathers painted in shades of green.

The kiosk
This was made in silver filigree.

Street lights
These are made of hypodermic needles through which fiber optics were placed.

Swans
These are millimetric in size and done very precisely and they remind us of those that were moved to the plazas of Copala and Panuco

The street car
Soon the streetcar will move

Lighting
The buildings have interior lighting.

Floors
They were drawn and painted to resemble cobblestone or wooden floorboards.
