Apenas se despidieron las fiestas de Navidad y Año Nuevo y ya la Plazuela Machado empieza a vestirse de Carnaval, con la instalación de las tradicionales figuras alegóricas.
En esta ocasión el corazón de la fiesta está resguardado por esfinges, criaturas surgidas de la unión de varios animales, materializadas por las manos del arquitecto Jorge González Nery.
Es de la mitología griega de donde saldrán este año los temas inspiradores de la edición 2008 del Carnaval Internacional de Mazatlán, bautizado como "Historias lejanas".
Del jueves 31 de enero al miércoles 6 de febrero reinarán los dioses, héroes y criaturas fantásticas para identificar a la celebración tanto en las figuras que se instalan a lo largo del malecón, como en los carros alegóricos y comparsas.

Magic and fantasy in Carnival

The parties and tidings of Christmas and New Year’s Eve have barely left us and already the Machado Plaza is getting ready for Carnival with the installation of traditional allegory figures. On this occasion the Machado, always the heart of the party, is guarded by sphinxes, creatures that came from the union of various animals and that were made by the architect Jorge Gonzalez Nery.
The inspiration for this year’s 2008 Carnival is Greek mythology and the theme has been baptized as “Distant Stories” (historias lejanas).
Gods, heroes and fantasy creatures will rein from Thursday, January 31 to Wednesday, February 6, all along the malecon with the presence of the installed figures as well as in the floats and costume wearing.
Visit the Machado Plaza and get into the Carnival spirit. The party is drawing near.
