Concordia de fiesta

"Una de las comunidades más antiguas en la zona sur del Estado, la Villa de San Sebastián, hoy Concordia, está de fiesta en honor a su santo patrono"

Concordia, la tierra donde abunda la carpintería, la alfarería y los ricos raspados, es escenario de eventos culturales, deportivos, bailes, palenque, carreras de caballos y los juegos mecánicos de la Feria de San Sebastián.
Esta celebración de origen religioso tiene como sede el templo estilo barroco de San Sebastián, construido en el siglo 18; y con motivo de ella también se organiza una feria y bailes, que se concentran en el Estadio Ignacio Brito, de la misma localidad.
Los eventos están pensados para todas las edades y atraen no sólo a los habitantes de esa comunidad y sus alrededores, sino a todas aquellas personas que gustan de pasar un rato alegre y lleno de tradiciones.

La villa
Concordia fue fundada un 20 de enero de 1565, por el español Francisco de Ibarra, con el nombre de San Sebastián, por lo cual sus habitantes festejan con alegría su 444 aniversario.
Originalmente el pueblo era llamado Amolola que significa "Tierra de víboras", fue en 1828 cuando se le dio el título de Ciudad de Concordia.
En dicho municipio de realizan muebles coloniales, alfarería de barro, sillas de montar, sombreros de palma y máscaras de madera, entre otras cosas.
El municipio se divide en 9 sindicaturas: Central, Pánuco, Tepuxta, El Verde, Zavala, Copala, Santa Lucía, Mesillas y Aguacaliente de Gárate.

Concordia está situado a 45 kilómetros de Mazatlán, pasando por Villa Unión, por la carretera Mazatlán-Durango.

Torneo
Del 16 al 18 de enero se efectuará el tradicional Torneo de Beisbol Copa San Sebastián 2008, en los campos de la Liga Infantil Silleritos a partir de las 9:00 horas.
Participarán las ligas afiliadas a la Región 4 de beisbol, Club Muralla, Liga Mazatlán, Liga Quintero Castañeda, Liga Chololos y Liga Silleritos de Concordia.




Concordia in party mode

One of the oldest communities in the southern part of the state, Concordia, is celebrating its patron saint.

Concordia is a land of carpentry, pottery and delicious "raspados" (snow cones) and it will be filled with cultural and sporting events, dances, parties, horse races and rides this week as the San Sebastian Fair is celebrated. The main venue for this celebration with religious roots is the Baroque style San Sebastian church which was built in the 18th century. There are dances and a fair at the Ignacio Brito Stadium. The events are planned out for all ages and they attract people from all over the area who like to spend a good time filled with tradition.

The villa
Concordia was founded on January 20th, 1565, by the Spaniard Francisco de Ibarra. The pueblo was originally called Amolola, which means "land of snakes", then changed to San Sebastian and so therefore the inhabitants celebrate the feast day. The name was changed to Concordia in 1828. This year the pueblo turns 444 years old. Mainstay crafts of Concordia include colonial furniture, clay pottery, palm leaf hats and wooden masks, among other things. The municipality is divided up into 9 areas: Central, Panuco, Tepuxta, El Verde, Zavala, Copala, Santa Lucia, Mesillas and Aguacaliente de Garate.

Saturday, January 24th
21:00 Dance with Fidel Rueda and Gerardo Lopez. Tickets are 170 pesos in advance and 200 at the door.

Tournament
From January 16th to 18th, there will be the annual San Sebastian Cup Baseball Tournament. It will be held on the Silleritos baseball fields starting at 9:00. Participating will be Region 4 baseball leagues: Club Muralla, Mazatlan, Quintero Castañeda, Chololos and Silleritos from Concordia
