"Arte en arena | Art in the sand"

De nuevo la Plazuela Machado es el escenario de una actividad artística, que jala los ojos de todos los que por ahí pasan y descubren que la arena de la playa adquirió forma en un lugar ajeno a su origen.
Frente al Centro Municipal de Arte un grupo de escultores en arena hizo posible esta obra, encabezados por Ángel Sarkyz, organizador de distintos concursos de escultura en este material que se han realizado en Mazatlán.
"El objetivo es promover el Primer Campeonato Mundial de Maestros Escultores. Cada año organizamos un concurso de amateurs y hay exhibiciones de maestros, pero ahora queremos que éstos se enfrenten para sacar un campeón mundial", explica Ángel Sarkyz.
En una fecha aún por confirmar se realizará el evento, pero mientras, causa admiración esta composición artística formada por varias figuras humanas.
La base de la obra es una mano, que representa al escultor creador; encima de ella está una mujer cuya figura muestra algunas grietas, representa a la musa inspiradora y su fragilidad.
Unas escaleras llevan a una mujer sentada en un trono. Es la mujer mazatleca que a su vez está siendo esculpida por un ángel, mientras a su alrededor se encuentra un castillo, que simboliza los sueños del artista; así como unos niños leyendo un libro, en alusión a que esta obra seguramente hará historia.
La escultura en arena permanecerá hasta que inicien las fiestas del Carnaval de Mazatlán, es una obra efímera que debe quedar en la memoria de quienes acierten a ir a la Plazuela Machado.

A preview of what will be an international contest

Once again the Machado Plaza is the scene of an artistic activity. It will attract the attention of everyone who passes by when they discover that beach sand has acquired a form far from its origin.
This is being done by a group of sand sculptors led by Angel Sarkyz in front of the Municipal Arts Center. Sarkyz is the organizer of various sand sculpting contests that have been held in Mazatlan. “The objective is to promote the First World Wide Master Sculptors Championship. Each year we organize an amateur contest and there are also master exhibitions, but now we want them to face off and crown a world champion”, he explains.
The date is yet to be announced, but meanwhile this artistic sand composition of various human figures will cause a lot of admiration. The base of the piece is a hand that represents the sculptor who created it and on top of the hand is a woman whose figure shows some cracks that represent the muse of inspiration and its fragility. Stairs go up to the woman on a throne. She is the Mazatlecan woman who is being sculpted by an angel while around her there is a castle that symbolizes the artist’s dream. There are some children reading a book, an allusion that this work will surely make history.
The sand sculpture will remain there until Carnival. It is an ephemeral piece that will remain in the memory of those who go to the Machado Plaza.
