"El ruiseñor mexicano // The Mexican Nightingale"
La Ciudad de México la vio nacer y el puerto de Mazatlán fue el escenario de la muerte de Ángela Peralta, la cantante de ópera que hizo historia, tanto por la calidad de su voz como por los momentos trágicos que marcaron su vida.
Este sábado 30 de agosto Mazatlán le rendirá homenaje con un programa de actividades que culminarán con una velada en el teatro que lleva su nombre.
En esa noche, la voz de Sergio López, investigador y narrador sinaloense, recreará pasajes de la vida de la cantante, quien revivirá a través de la voz de la soprano mexicana María Katzarava, que estará acompañada musicalmente por Ángel Rodríguez, pianista cubano de la Compañía Nacional de Ópera en México
Actividades
9:00 Se realizará una guardia de honor en el Panteón Municipal número 2, lugar donde descansaron sus restos hasta 1937, año en que se trasladaron a la Rotonda de los Hombres Ilustres, en la Ciudad de México.
10:30 Se colocará una ofrenda floral y guardia de honor en el Centro Municipal de Artes, antes Hotel Iturbide, lugar donde murió la cantante.
11:00 Inauguración de una exposición iconográfica y documental de la diva mexicana, con apoyo del cronista de la ciudad, Enrique Vega Ayala, el Archivo Histórico Municipal y la colaboración de Alfredo y Manuel Gómez Rubio.
20:00 En el Teatro Ángela Peralta, la soprano María Katzarava dará vida al "El Ruiseñor Mexicano" en compañía del pianista Ángel Rodríguez y del narrador Sergio López Sánchez.
Datos de la Cantante
- María de los Ángeles Manuela Tranquilina Cirila Efrena Peralta Castera nació el 6 de julio de 1845 en la Ciudad de México.
- A los 20 años y con su voz privilegiada, conquistó los principales escenarios europeos. - Fue en Europa donde por vez primera la llamaron "El ruiseñor mexicano".
- El 22 agosto de 1883 llegó a Mazatlán junto con su compañía musical, integrada por 80 artistas, en su mayoría italianos.
- Llegando al muelle se le recibió con el himno nacional y sobre un carruaje, seguida por sus admiradores fue llevada hasta el Hotel Iturbide. Al llegar, salió al balcón y saludó al pueblo que se encontraba frente al edificio.
- Al día siguiente, una enfermedad llamada "níquel", fiebre amarilla, ataco a muchos mazatlecos, entre ellos a los artistas de la compañía de ópera y a la misma Ángela Peralta
- Fue el 30 de agosto de 1883 cuando falleció la cantante, siendo sepultada en el Panteón Municipal número 2.
- El 11 de abril de 1937 fueron exhumados sus restos para ser trasladados al panteón civil de la Ciudad de México.
- En honor y memoria de "El Ruiseñor Mexicano", en Mazatlán se nombró Teatro Ángela Peralta al Teatro Rubio, el escenario donde no llegó a presentarse.

Mazatlan will celebrate the 125th anniversary of the death of Angela Peralta, the most recognized Mexican singer around the world in the 19th century, with an opera
Mexico City watched her grow up and Mazatlan was the place of death for Angela Peralta, the opera singer who made history because of the quality of her voice and because of the tragic moments that marked her life.
Mazatlan will pay homage to her this Saturday, August 30th, with a program of activities that will culminate with an event in the theater that bears her name. The voice of the Sinaloan investigator and narrator Sergio Lopez will recreate passages from the life of the singer who will be represented on stage by the voice of the Mexican soprano Maria Katzarava. She will be accompanied musically by Angel Rodriguez, the Cuban pianist of the National Opera Company in Mexico City.
Activities
9:00 An honor guard will be held in Municipal Cemetery # 2, the place where her remains were until 1937 when they were moved to La Rotonda de los Hombres Ilustres in Mexico City.
10:30 A floral wreath will be place and the honor guard will be present at the Municipal Arts Center, which was once the Hotel Iturbide, the place where the singer passed away.
11:00 Inauguration of an iconography and document exposition of the Mexican diva featuring Enrique Vega Ayala, the city historian. The Municipal Historic Archive and Alfredo and Manuel Gomez Rubio also collaborated on this exposition.
20:00 The soprano Maria Katzarava will bring the Mexican Nightingale to life, along with pianist Angel Rodriguez and narrator Sergio Lopez Sanchez.
Facts about Angela Peralta
- Maria de los Angeles Manuela Tranquilina Cirila Efrena Peralta Castera was born on July 6th, 1845, in Mexico City.
- By 20 years old she had conquered the main stages of Europe with her special voice.
- It was in Europe where they first called her the "Mexican Nightingale".
- She came to Mazatlan on August 22nd, 1883 with her musical company of 80 artists, most of them Italian.
- She was greeted at the docks by the national anthem, placed in a carriage and, followed by her fans, taken to the Hotel Iturbide. When she arrived she went out on the balcony and greeted her public, who had gathered out front.
- The next day, yellow fever broke out among many Mazatlecans, among them the artists of the company and the singer herself.
- She died on August 30th, 1883 and was buried in Municipal Cemetery # 2.
- He remains were exhumed and moved to Mexico City on April 11, 1937.
- In honor of the Mexican Nightingale, Mazatlan renamed the Rubio Theater the Angela Peralta. She never performed on its stage.
