El invierno llegó fuerte a Mazatlán, pero los surfistas no se dejan vencer y siguen yendo en busca de las olas que describen como "chicas, pero divertidas", las que encuentran en un solo lugar, la Playa Brujas.
"Surfear es una pasión, y como cualquier otra no importan las condiciones. Con el simple hecho de estar en el agua, viendo las olas, te sientes satisfecho y te relajas", comparte Carlos Salazar, uno de los más fieles cazadores de olas.
El frío lo combaten con trajes especiales de neopreno, que los ayudan a conservar el calor. Lo demás es simplemente cuestión de entrenamiento, de aprender a tolerar el frío.
Estos atletas del mar se convierten así en todo un espectáculo que los menos arriesgados pueden admirar desde la playa, bien abrigados y sorprendidos de cómo pueden animarse a retar los elementos: agua, frío y viento. Las horas con mayor número de surfistas: de 12:00 a 16:00 horas.
Quienes saben de este deporte coinciden en que durante el invierno Playa Brujas es el mejor punto para surfear pues ahí confluyen la corriente y el viento del norte, este último es bloqueado por el cerro aledaño y las olas no se distorsionan.
Así pues, el invierno también es tiempo para surfear.

Their passion for surfing wins out over the winter cold

This winter arrived very strongly in Mazatlan, but surfers certainly haven’t given up and they continue looking for waves that they describe as “small but fun”. Most of these winter waves are found at Playa Brujas (witches beach).
“Surfing is a passion and like any other passion, the conditions don’t matter. The simple fact of being in the water, watching the waves makes you feel satisfied and you relax”, says Carlos Salazar, one of the most loyal of local wave hunters.
One combats the cold with neoprene wetsuits which help conserve warmth. The rest is simply a matter of entertainment and learning to tolerate the cold.
These athletes of the sea are a real show for the more faint of heart who watch them all bundled up from the beach. The people on the beach are surprised how the surfers can get up for the elements of water, cold and wind. The best hours for surfing are from 12:00 to 16:00 at Playa Brujas and those who know surfing agree that during winter this is the best beach for grabbing waves since the north wind and the ocean current come together here. The wind is blocked a bit by the nearby cliffs and the waves are still relatively well formed.
