"Fervor guadalupano // Guadalupe Fervor"
A partir de este jueves 11 de diciembre, la devoción guadalupana de los habitantes de El Quelite se desbordará en una fiesta popular que se prolongará hasta el próximo domingo 14, por la celebración del Día de la Virgen de Guadalupe, patrona del lugar.
El nombre completo del poblado es Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe de El Quelite, en honor a su Santa Patrona, a quien está dedicado el templo, construido por misioneros franciscanos durante la época colonial.
La celebración religiosa inicia desde el primer día de diciembre, con misas al alba, peregrinaciones y el rezo del rosario, que llega a su culminación mañana, con una celebración eucarística especial.
Este jueves, a partir la media noche, habrá quema de un castillo pirotécnico y una banda le cantará Las Mañanitas a la Santa Patrona, iniciando el festejo popular.
Las tradicionales fiestas de El Quelite en honor a la Virgen de Guadalupe son todo un acontecimiento en la zona norte del municipio de Mazatlán, y tiene influencia en los vecinos de San Ignacio, Elota y Cosalá.
Por su belleza colonial y organización social como Sindicatura, El Quelite es una de las comunidades más apreciadas turísticamente en la región por sus calles de belleza colonial, en las que resaltan el orden y la limpieza, grandes orgullos de sus habitantes.
Tradición centenaria
La mayoría de los quelitenses desconocen desde cuando se realizan los festejos en honor a la Virgen de Guadalupe, lo que sí saben es que la fiesta patronal es la celebración más importante del año y tiene una duración de cuatro días.
A las fiestas asiste gente de los alrededores y reúne a las familias. Hay palenque, juegos mecánicos, carreras de caballos, antojitos mexicanos y bailes populares.
Variedad culinaria
En El Quelite la oferta gastronómica es suculenta, sus restaurantes ofrecen un variado menú basado en platillos mexicanos, acompañados de queso fresco, cuajada, salsas y tortillas de comal, todo recién hecho.
Por su proximidad al mar, también hay restaurantes de mariscos para satisfacer casi cualquier antojo; otro placer son los postres regionales: nieves, jamoncillos, empanadas, tamales de elote, raspados y dulce de leche.
El Quelite
Fue fundado hacia el año de 1564, por el conquistador español Francisco de Ibarra, como Rancho El Quelital, a la vera del río Amole, hoy río Quelite.
Sus calles empedradas, siempre limpias y regadas, evocan al México del siglo 18, no en vano el corrido El Quelite inicia con la frase "qué bonito es El Quelite, bien haya el que lo fundó".
La arquitectura combina influencias colonial y neoclásico tropical, el caserío de las calles principales se caracteriza por fachadas con amplios portales adornados con floridos jardines y macetas coloridas, en los que se antoja descansar.
¿Cómo llegar?
El Quelite se sitúa al noroeste del Municipio, está al pie de la Sierra Madre Occidental, pero cerca de la costa, a 38 kilómetros de Mazatlán sobre la Carretera Libre a Culiacán. Se toma la desviación en el kilómetro 33, a 5 kilómetros está la pintoresca comunidad que recientemente recibió el título de Pueblo Señorial.

Durante cuatro días El Quelite vivirá una actividad social intensa, desde las celebraciones religiosas hasta los bailes populares que se realizarán en honor a la Virgen de Guadalupe.

The beautiful pueblo of El Quelite gets ready to celebrate the Virgin of Guadalupe from December 11th to 14th
The devotion that the people of El Quelite have for the virgin of Guadalupe will overflow starting this Thursday, December 11th. It will last until the 14th. She is the patron saint of this wonderful pueblo whose complete name is Our Lady of Guadalupe of El Quelite. The church, which was built by Franciscan missionaries in the colonial era, is dedicated to her.
The religious celebration actually began on December 1st with a mass at dawn, pilgrimages and the saying of the rosary. It culminates tomorrow with a special Eucharist mass. There will be a firework castle and a band will sing the popular traditional song "Las Mañanitas" on Thursday at midnight, initiating the festival.
The celebrations of the virgin held in El Quelite are a total happening in the northern zone of the municipality of Mazatlan. They influence the adjoining municipalities of Cosala, San Ignacio and Elota.
El Quelite is one of the area's most appreciated towns by tourists because of its colonial beauty and organization. It is a clean, orderly town and its inhabitants are proud of it.
Hundred year tradition
Most citizens of El Quelite don't know when the fiestas for the virgin began, but they do know that it is the most important day of the year and that it lasts 4 days. People come from all over the area to celebrate it and to unite with friends and family. There are fiestas, rides, horse races, popular dances and delicious food.
A variety of food
There is succulent food in El Quelite. Its restaurants offer a varied menu of Mexican food accompanied by fresh cheese, tortillas and sauces. Of course there is also lots of seafood because of its proximity to the sea and there are lots of regional desserts like breaded sweets, ice cream, sweet corn tamales, sweet milk and snow cones.
El Quelite
El Quelite was founded in 1564 by the Spanish conquistador Francisco Ibarra on the banks of the Amole River, which is today called the Quelite River. It was originally called Rancho El Quelital. The pueblo evokes 18th century Mexico, in large part because of its clean, cobble stone streets. No wonder the famous song about the pueblo begins with the lines "El Quelite is so pretty, they did a great job when they founded the place". The architecture combines colonial and neo-classical tropical. The houses in town have facades with large portals decorated with flowery gardens and colored flower pots and give off a peaceful, relaxing feeling.
How to get there
El Quelite is located north east of Mazatlan in the foothills of the Sierra Madre Occidental. It is a mere 38 kilometers from Mazatlan, off of the free highway to Culiacan. At the 33 kilometers sign, turn off and head east for 5 kilometers more and you will enter the picturesque community that was recently named a "Pueblo Señorial" (stately pueblo, a step in being recognized by the federal government as a fully historic patrimony, a special place) in Mexico.
